The automotive media is suitably impressed by the 2021 Genesis G70. The automotive experts at Edmunds write: “The Genesis G70 proves you don’t have to pay luxury prices to get a luxury experience. ... The Genesis G70 isn’t just a brawny bruiser. It also features a richly detailed cabin that might surprise shoppers new to this nascent Korean luxury brand.”
The 2021 Genesis G70 comes in three trim levels: 2.0T, 2.0T M/T Sport and 3.3T. The 2.0T and 2.0T M/T Sport models are powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that generates 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Powering the 3.3T is a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 engine that puts out an impressive 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of twist. Both engines are coupled to a standard eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. A six-speed manual transmission is optional with the turbo-four engine.
Car and Driver tested a rear-wheel-drive G70 3.3T and recorded that it took a mere 4.7 seconds to make it to 60 mph from off the line. The G70 also gets excellent fuel economy, with up to an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway when outfitted with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine with the automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.*
The 2021 Genesis G70’s seats will keep the driver and passengers very comfortable, even on longer drives. Everyone will enjoy the smooth and quiet ride. Drivers will appreciate the G70’s five drive modes. They let the driver modify characteristics such as the engine sound, steering, and engine response. All-wheel-drive models can adjust the torque distribution, while the adaptive electronic suspension system can be altered in V6 models.
The 2021 Genesis G70 achieved Top Safety Pick+ status by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, with the highest marks of Good in all crash tests. As of this writing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has yet to test the 2021 Genesis G70.
